Julius Caesar is to become emperor, but the constitution of the Roman Republic does not permit this. Action must be taken. A group of conspirators from the Senate led by Gaius Cassius and Marcus Brutus plan to assassinate Caesar on the Ides of March. The assassination succeeds, but is followed by bloody riots, chaos and civil war, and finally in the assumption of power by Caesar Augustus, who eventually rules Rome as de facto emperor for decades. An irony of fate that those who wanted to prevent the monarchy ultimately prepared the way for it, through haphazard and discordant action.
We perform the play with a female cast, focusing on the politics, intrigue and motivations of the individual assassins.
