Steven Church, Head of School

Steven is an experienced educational leader committed to building a school where young people thrive academically, personally and socially. He believes outstanding education is founded on strong relationships, a genuine sense of belonging and a culture where character develops alongside academic excellence. As Head of School, he is dedicated to creating a community in which every student feels known, valued and inspired to achieve their personal best.

Originally from Australia, Steven’s experience spans strategic leadership, residential education, student wellbeing, safeguarding, academic improvement, staff development and whole-school operations. He holds a Master of Education (Educational Management) together with degrees in science and education.

With extensive experience in international boarding education, Steven understands the unique opportunities and responsibilities of an international residential school. He is committed to fostering an environment where every student feels safe, supported and connected, and where diversity of culture and perspective enriches the entire community. Steven is equally committed to developing outstanding teachers and nurturing a collaborative professional culture built on continuous learning, evidence-informed practice and shared ambition. He believes that investing in people – students and staff alike – is fundamental to achieving lasting educational excellence.

An outdoors enthusiast, he values the role of the natural environment in developing confidence, resilience and wellbeing, reflecting the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz philosophy of mens sana in corpore sano.

Alexandra Conchard, Deputy Head of School (International) and Head of International Section

A French and Swiss national raised in Sharjah, UAE, Alexandra brings a truly international perspective to her role at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. She holds a Master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language from Université Paris Descartes in France and a PGCE from St Martin’s College in the United Kingdom. Alexandra began her career teaching French and Spanish in schools across the UK and France, where she quickly developed a passion for fostering curiosity, cultural understanding and a love of languages in her students. Her career then expanded into more than two decades of school leadership in Turkey, Switzerland and Portugal, where she worked in diverse educational contexts and guided teams through periods of growth, change and innovation.

Throughout her professional journey she has taken on a wide range of responsibilities from curriculum design and assessment policy to staff development and student wellbeing. This breadth of experience has given her a comprehensive understanding of what makes a school community thrive. She is dedicated to creating an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence while developing the resilience, empathy and global outlook needed for life beyond school. With her experience, creativity and collaborative approach Alexandra is committed to supporting the continued growth of the International Section. She believes that international education broadens horizons and builds cultural bridges, and she is keen to contribute to the ongoing success and development of the school.

Valerie Scullion, Head of Admissions and Marketing Department

Valerie Scullion studied Tourism and Hospitality at Collège LaSalle in Montreal before embarking on a career in admissions and marketing. With over 20 years of experience in top boarding schools across Canada and Switzerland, Valerie has developed a deep understanding of the enrolment process and the impact of international education on students and families.

Having studied in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Canada, she developed a passion for international schools and the unique opportunities they offer students from diverse backgrounds. Throughout a career spanning roles at Bishop’s College School, Collège du Léman and Aiglon College, she has led admissions and marketing teams to achieve sustained growth while ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for families. A strong advocate for boarding education, Valerie appreciates how it cultivates independence, resilience, and a deep sense of community.

All parents are considered to be ambassadors of the Lyceum Alpinum. The Parent Ambassadors of the Lyceum Alpinum are designed to be a proactive, positive, and globally representative body of parents. Its purpose is to strengthen the parent community, enhance efforts to realise the school’s objectives, and provide constructive partnership to strengthen bonds between parents and the school. It avoids becoming a platform for matters personal to a member’s child, which should be addressed directly with the appropriate staff member.
