Hollywood, Rafting, Language Schools – Swiss School’s Spectacular Summer Camps #LyceumAlpinumTOP5

Summer is around the corner and adventure is in the air. The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, the Swiss international boarding school, is preparing its annual camp for students, ages 6 – 17. This year is as exciting and diverse as ever. With language courses and recreational activities, there is something for everyone – from acting classes, to rafting and rock climbing, to the Junior Day Programme and Preparation Academy. A few spots are still available. Don’t miss the vacation of a lifetime in the breathtaking Swiss Alps! To tide yourself over until summer, here are some of the incredible courses Summer Camp 2017 has to offer:

1. Hollywood Meets Zuoz

Ever heard of "Ocean’s Twelve"? Not only did Gian Franco Tordi appear in the blockbuster, he is a major player in the American film industry. A man of many talents, Gian Franco is a comedian, writer and director. Before completing university to be an actor at the New York Film Academy and the University of California at Los Angeles, he was a student at Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. After graduating from the school in 1991, the Switzerland-born star landed the lead role in Luigi and has featured in films and television shows like The Good German, Pocket Listing, General Hospital, Monday Mornings, and Different Spy.

We are excited to have Gian Franco return to the school this summer to lead our 2017 film workshop.

Hone your skills in English, German, or French in the morning and in the afternoon you can learn about theater, film and acting from an industry professional!

The Zuoz Film Academy covers the following:

  • Warm-up acting exercises
  • Stage presence vs. acting in front of a camera
  • Scene and character development
  • Camera settings and acting techniques
  • Collaborating with your director
  • Marks and eye line matches
  • Choreography and the scene
  • Rehearsing
  • Fun, fun, fun

We are thrilled to offer this course to our burgeoning stars.

2. Hot Days, Cool Rafting

All that learning got you beat? Liven things up with a true summer camp highlight: white water rafting! Every year, the school offers a rafting day trip, led by an experienced guide. Whether you’re there to ride the rapids or take a dip in the refreshing waters, everyone can enjoy the views the Engadin’s untamed nature has to offer. We also have waterproof GoPROs if you’d like to record your experience. Direct your own action-filled adventure and we’ll save your masterpiece on CD or thumb drive to take home. All equipment used on rafting trips is provided and checked regularly by trip organizers. All you need is a sense of adventure and a little courage.

3. Rock Climb to New Heights

Up, up and away! If you want to experience Switzerland’s nature firsthand, check out our rock climbing adventure. Supervised by experienced mountain guides, students learn the ropes and how to tie proper knots, complete a basic climbing and safety course, and do their first climb in the beautiful Morteratsch region. Campers also learn the basics of rappelling and cross a glacial stream via zip-line!

4. Junior Day Programme & Preparation Academy

This year, the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz offers a premiere summer programme for students ages 6 – 9. Mornings from 9:00 – 11:45, campers practice English (beginner or intermediate), followed by a healthy and delicious lunch. Afterwards, campers participate in a range of recreational activities, such as sports, excursions, handicrafts and baking. The day lasts from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and we can gladly arrange transportation home for your children.

Furthermore we are glad to offer a special Preparation Academy to older students. Anyone who prefers to make good use of one’s free time to prepare for the IB, the A-levels or any high school programme, this academy is an absolute insider tip. The two-week course takes place August 13th–25th and enables every student aged between 14-17 to improve their Mathematics and English skills individually. Additionally our experienced teachers show professional study techniques.

5. Happy Birthday, Swiss Summer Camp!

It’s hard to believe our summer camp here in Engadin, Switzerland is turning 20! Our camp’s combination of language courses, sports, nature, and recreational activities is truly effective and enjoyable for campers. Students from near and far come back every year to experience an unforgettable time and make new friends.

To celebrate our birthday, we have some special events planned.

On the opening Sunday of each session (July 16 and 30), we are hosting a small rap concert, performed by our own Gino Clavuot. Gino has been with us since 2014, working as a boys’ counselor and leading rap workshops for all students. For more: www.snook-rap.ch

We also have some events planned for the parents. On Monday, July 17 and Monday, July 31, we invite you to join us in the Zuoz Globe for refreshments, as we unveil our brand new Urezza House. Directly after camp has opened on those dates, approx. 10 a.m., we are taking a guided hike through the Swiss Glacier National Park to see the gorgeous Morteratsch Glacier. This hike offers fantastic views of the Swiss Alps and lasts about 2 hours, concluding with a delicious meal at the alpine restaurant Sennerei.

From language schools and outdoor activities, to the picturesque scenery of Switzerland, our international camp promises to be a dream vacation.
