Swiss Matura

The standard high school diploma in Switzerland is the Swiss Matura. It qualifies graduates to study at all universities within Switzerland and is internationally recognised.

Our students prepare for the Matura in a six-year or four-year programme. In addition to a comprehensive education, including arts and sciences, this diploma requires students to study several major subjects in-depth. The Swiss Matura can be completed either exclusively in German or bilingually with the choice of German/English, German/Italian or German/Rhaeto-Romanic.

Bilingual Swiss Matura German/English

Since the school year 2015/16, students have had the opportunity to complete the bilingual German/English Matura programme during their last three years of high school. A three-week language stay in an English-speaking region is required to graduate.

Maturità Bilingue Grigionese German/Italian

Students whose native language is Italian can choose the Swiss Matura Maturità Bilingue Grigionese” in Italian and German.

Maturitad Bilingua Grischuna German/Rhaeto-Romanic

Students whose native language is Rhaeto-Romanic can choose the Swiss Matura Maturitad Bilingua Grischuna” in Rhaeto-Romanic and German.

What I find particularly interesting about the Swiss Matura are the multilingual approaches and combination possibilities. By concentrating on individually chosen major subjects during your education, you can already determine a path towards a discipline in which you could study later.

International Baccalaureate

High school diploma taught in English with an emphasis on Ethics and Business

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is an international education programme that prepares students primarily for English-speaking universities. It focusses on fostering independent learning and critical thinking to develop mature, critically-minded people.

Academic tutorial programme

Each student of the IB Diploma is assigned to an Academic Tutor, who assists whenever needed and monitors performance. Tutors have access to all relevant information about the student. They are in close contact with teachers and parents.

CAS programme

The CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programme is central to the IB programme. It aims to involve students in meaningful activities outside school that support personal growth and encourage self-reflection about their learning experiences.

LGT workshop

The workshop aims to introduce young minds to the basics of project management, philanthropy and fundraising as well as provide guidance in making decisions about their CAS activities.

Pre-IGCSE and IGCSE programme

The 7th and 8th grades lay a solid foundation in the core subjects and in the 9th and 10th grades we follow the IGCSE curriculum, which is the ideal preparation for the IB Diploma Programme. More information about the programme can be found here:

As the world becomes more globally minded and social challenges increase, it is important to choose the right degree early in your education. I was helped by a tutor, who was always there for me and brought out the best in me.

Day Students

Day students are an essential part of our high school, as they make up more than half of the attendees in the Matura programme.

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz offers students from the Canton Grisons the opportunity to attend high school. Together with our internal students, they help shape a school that is open to cultural diversity while remaining deeply rooted in the Engadine.

Entrance test

To take the Swiss Matura, students must first take and pass an entrance examination at a Grisons middle school to qualify for admission.

Preparatory course

The entrance examination tests knowledge and understanding. It is advisable to attend this course as early as possible to be best prepared for the exam. Register here

Boarding school à la carte

Day students can reside in the boarding school for a limited time during school semesters, if their parents are not at home due to professional or personal reasons.

Services

Meals, homework tutoring, afternoon activities and community weekends – many of the Lyceum Alpinum’s amenities are available to our day students as well.

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz in Switzerland differs from other high schools in Switzerland because of the different cultures represented from Europe and all over the world. Furthermore, one can complete a bilingual Swiss Matura programme (G/E and I/G) here.

Our school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities. We take into account individual preferences and abilities to tailor educational experience.

The Learning Support Centre supports those with special needs or highly gifted children who need an extra challenge. This includes individual coaching as well as the mediation of therapies for dyslexia, dyscalculia or concentration disorders (ADHD).

Tutoring

In addition to regular classes, our students can benefit from tutoring with teachers to discuss subject-specific questions more in-depth. In the case of learning difficulties or knowledge gaps in certain subjects, we offer individual tutoring.

The 80-minute scheduled study time takes place daily from Monday to Friday. Students can prepare for exams, do homework and consult their tutors if they have any questions. It enables them to be ready for the next day and upcoming exams.

The Lyceum Alpinum offers a wide range of courses — especially when it comes to languages. I was also pleased to see that, in addition to the regular lessons, you can choose special subjects, different languages and additional features to improve your knowledge and skills.
