Houses: Helvetia, Teutonia and Orania

In 2009 the school completely restructured the system of inter-house competition not only to make it fairer and more efficient, but most of all in order to include and involve every student - both boarding and day.

Distinct from their Boarding Houses, students are also assigned to one of the three Houses - Helvetia, Teutonia or Orania for the duration of their time at the Lyceum. The Sports Department and the Boarding House Staff take great care to ensure that these three Houses are as balanced and equal as possible, both in terms of numbers and also the abilities and attributes of individuals within each House.

House matches take place during some Games lessons, on Friday evenings and sometimes on weekends throughout the school year. In addition to the prestigious Sports Day, Ski Day and Crosslauf (Cross-country) events, the House Competition also includes Cricket, Fives, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Ice Hockey, Golf and more. Boarding Houses also organise regular "fun" House activities such as Quizzes, Fancy Dress sports, and even the ever-popular Rugby on Snow.

All of these events generate points which contribute to a House's overall total. The House with the highest points total at the end of the school year is declared the Champion and the House members win special privileges.
