Careers' Day with the Zuoz Club

Schedule

16:30  Meeting by all M5 and IB1 students in the Aula. Introduction by Dr Schmitt, followed by a short speech by Dr Staehelin, former Swiss ambassador to the UN and Japan.

17:00  Start of the workshops and lectures. A list of participants and rooms will be posted outside the Aula. All M5 and IB1 students must attend at least two workshops/lectures.

18:30 Dinner for all in the dining room, all students are strongly encouraged to use this opportunity for further informal talks with the representatives of the Zuoz Club and the higher education institutions.

Lectures and workshops

1. From Business to Biology, room 304 (underneath Kleinhaus)

Old Boy Det Berg studied Business&Economics at the University of St. Gallen, before entering the business world. He has particular experience in the sector of marketing. However, in 2009 Det decided to study Biology at the University of Zurich and he has travelled extensively in the Pacific to study marine biology and to run conservation projects. He is the ideal person to speak to if you're not quite sure what to do or if you are considering very different careers.

2. Internet start-up, room 302 (underneath Kleinhaus)

Old Girl Nora Dearden and her husband, both graduates of Boston University, started their own internet business about 7 years ago. Nora studied communications at BU. Talk to them if you want to find out more about studying in the States, studying communications and how to start your own (successful!) internet business.

3. Hochschule St. Gallen (HSG) und Universität Zürich, Grosshaus: TV room 1st floor

Nicolas Reith, Alex Schoeller und eine Gruppe weiterer junger Old Boys, die momentan noch im Studium sind, erzählen Euch mehr über ihre Erfahrungen im Wirtschafts- und Geschichtsstudium in St. Gallen und Zürich.

4. Gap Year, room 201 (corner room on Rondell, underneath Kleinhaus)

Veronique Bouffard of Aidan College (Switzerland) will tell you more about why it is worth taking a gap year and why Aidan College offers the "ultimate gap year experience". Since more and more students are considering the option of a gap year this is an excellent occasion to find out about the opportunities of a gap year.

5. Hospitality and Event Management - Marketing, Aula

Alexander von Arx of Glion Instititute of Higher Education gives a talk on one of the finest hospitality management/marketing schools, which has partner schools throughout the world. If you see yourself in event management, marketing or the hospitality industry attend this workshop.

6. TV Journalism - Fashion Business, Chesa Arpiglia: Common Room

Old Boy Philipp Bächstädt was one of the first IB graduates at the Lyceum Alpinum. After obtaining a hotel management diploma from Lausanne and a business degree from the University of Kent (UK), Philipp has pursued a double career as a TV journalist for RTL, n-tv and other TV stations, while he also runs his own fashion business.

7. Business and Career Consulting, room 102 (Wirtschaft&Recht, above Mabü)

Old Boy Patrick Heitmeyer, another IB graduate of the Lyceum Alpinum, has lived in Switzerland, Germany, Thailand and the USA. After a double majour in Business Administration and Psychology he also obtained a MA in Mental Health Counselling. In 2011 Patrick founded Business Consulting Munich, a modern and international consulting company. Business Consulting Munich focuses on stress management, burnout and career consulting.

8. Structuristic Painting, 422 (Zeichensaal/Art Room)

Old Boy Felix Stoffel and his co-workers of Stoffel’s Conception offer a small group of students the opportunity to paint a “structuristic painting”. Visual Arts teacher Hedi Ernst will be partly involved with the project too, offering students a new vision and the chance to explore new techniques under professional guidance. Students have already signed up for the workshop through Ms Ernst.

9. Model United Nations, Arvenzimmer

Old Boy Dr Jenö Staehelin is one of Switzerland’s most foremost diplomats, having served as the country’s first ambassador to the United Nations Organisation in 2003, as well as having been appointed to the Swiss embassy in Japan. Together with Mr Craig Dunn, Dr Staehelin will offer our MUN Society the unique opportunity of his experience in the world of diplomacy in general and at the UN in particular. Attendance is limited to members of the MUN Society of the Lyceum Alpinum.

10. Università Bocconi, Chesa Arpiglia: Common Room

Old Boys Federico Galperti (BA University of Durham, UK) and Johann Waller (BA Hochschule St. Gallen) are both currently studying for a Master's degree (Marketing and Finance respectively) at the famous Università Bocconi in Milano. Find out more about one of Europe's most renowned universities for business, economics and management.
