Beat Sommer, Head of School

Beat Sommer was born in 1957 and graduated from the Gymnasium Freudenberg in Zurich with the Matura before going on to complete his studies (lic. phil I) in English and Romance Languages at the University of Zürich. Following various periods abroad, several years of teaching at the Kantonsschule Rämibühl, Zurich and a brief time in the human resources department of a major Swiss bank, he was elected as Senior Teacher of English at the Swiss School in São Paolo, Brazil. In 1991, together with his wife Ursula, he took over as Head of the Girls’ Boarding House at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, and later the function as Co-ordinator of the three boarding houses. In addition he was also Senior Teacher of English and French. In January 1998 he was elected Head of the Freies Gymnasium Zurich with responsibility for the pedagogical, staff and financial management of the school.

Beat Sommer was appointed to Head of the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz on 1 January 2005 by the school’s board of directors.
